THE BHAKTIVEDANTA INSTITUTE, founded in 1974, conduct research in the field of science and consciousness The Institute has its centers in Bombay and Berkeley. Besides its own in-house research programs, the Institute interacts through short-term'  and long-term'  fellowships with eminent academic scholars who have come to perceive the need to consider the role of mind in the physical world to further basic research in their fields.

The present monograph is a result of one such study, making a preliminary evaluation of the concepts about physical reality outlined in the theistic Sankhya philosophy presented in the Vedic literature of India, the Srimad Bhagavatam(Canto Ill and XI). The monograph evaluates these concepts particularly from the standpoint of quantum mechanics and its famous"measurement problem Monographs dealing with other fields will be made available in this series in the future.
